How can global stories of the hero's journey prevent or heal trauma for gender expansive people?
A research project for the Antioch University masters program of Transdisciplinary Studies in Healing Education
Ethics Statement:
Program and Use: I'm currently pursuing a masters degree in Transdisciplinary Studies in Healing Education through Antioch University. Your interviews would be used in a research paper for said degree. This paper will be presented at an education conference this summer in Keene NH and potentially (hopefully in other education spaces going forward). Your interview may be used for complete quotes, summarized/paraphrased examples, or as part of an aggregate trend of other interviewees. I will be organizing the data I collect in qualitative ways for the narrative of the paper, as well as in quantitative ways (ex: percentages of people who experienced ___ as a child). All interviewees will get access to the full research paper on completion.
Privacy and Anonymity: As a teacher, student, researcher, and human I am dedicated to creating as ethical of a research process as possible. While I will retain your personal information throughout the research process and beyond in order to contact you, this process will be anonymous (for you, your students, your family members). As a trans person under Trump's administration, I am aware of how important our privacy and security are at this moment. All interviews will be recorded for transcription reasons. These videos will only be seen by myself and my advisor (Karine Finster) and will be permanently deleted after the paper's completion. I will retain the transcripts for posterity but they will never be shared/disseminated outside of how they appear in the research paper or with express permission in future research.
Intentions: I am undergoing this process because I love and care for trans and gender expansive people. I want to contribute to our collective knowledge of how to heal and create resilience. I will approach our interviews with a trauma informed lens and do my best to care for your full humanity in the process. As a white researcher, I'm dedicated to bringing an anticolonial and anti-racist framework to our interviews and will work with you in the intake process to make sure you can bring your complete self to our interview.
